Biodynamic Massage
Therapists who provide this service: Jo Green
Biodynamic Massage was first developed in Norway in the 1960's by
Gerda Boysen. She was a physiotherapist who became interested in the
effects of massage on people's mental health which led her to train as a clinical psychologist. She discovered how we actually digest unexpressed emotions and the after-effects of stress through our digestive organs.
Biodynamic Massage is a therapeutic massage therapy , enhancing the whole person with touch that is sensitive and appropriate, to encourage each person to value and trust their body as part of their whole self.
It is concerned with the integration of mind and body. It involves a broad range of techniques that work not only at the physical level of skin, tissue, muscle and bone, but also at the more subtle level of energy flow in the body. How we breathe directly affects our energy levels and our ability to let go of tension and worry. The massage therapist tunes into the rhythm of the client's breathing to encourage a sense of expansion.
Biodynamic Massage treats the whole person to help restore the balance and to release the blocks in energy flow accumulated in times of heightened stress and in daily living and to bring the body's systems back into balance, leading to improved health and well-being.
Working with the effects and origins of stress, it can promote deep relaxation, improve the circulation and increase energy. It can also help to relieve chronic symptoms such as headaches, tension, pain, digestive problems and insomnia.
Each treatment is designed to suit the needs of the individual and the appropriate techniques are selected to restore balance and improve overall health. Over a period of time, treatment can lead to a change in posture, an increase in breathing, improved body tone and circulation and a release of emotions.
