The terms Podiatry and Chiropody are used interchangeably. A Podiatrist will perform the same treatments as the Chiropodist as well as carrying out Biomechanical assessments for gait problems and prescribing orthotics. A podiatrist may also specialise in foot surgery, sports injuries Diabetes etc.

As from 2003 all Podiatrist/Chiropodists are registered with the Health Professional Council (HPC). This Government body regulates and monitors all Podiatrists and Chiropodists, and only those individuals registered with the HPC are allowed to use these protected titles.

Chiropody: The Diagnosis and treatment of foot ailments such as Corns, Calluses, Ingrown toe nails, Athlete's foot and nail trimming. This also includes preventative advice on proper foot care and footwear.

Nail Care: Trimming of nails as well as removal of ingrown toe nails or thickened nails caused by injury or other ailments.
